The short version
Target Detect runs entirely on your device. Your scorebook stays in your iCloud. We do not collect, store, transmit, or have any access to your data. There is no analytics, no third-party tracking, and no account to sign up for.
What the app handles
When you use Target Detect, the app handles:
- Shooting session details you enter — firearm, distance, ammunition, drill, conditions, range location, and notes
- Photographs of your targets that you take in the app
- Coordinates of detected shots on those photographs
- Statistics derived from your shot data — groups, CEP, scores, trends
- Optionally, your device location — only if you turn it on
It does not handle:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any personal contact information
- Device or hardware identifiers used for tracking
- Any data outside of what you enter or capture inside the app
Where your data is stored
Your data lives in two places only:
- On your device. The app stores your scorebook locally using Apple's Core Data framework.
- In your iCloud. If you have iCloud enabled, the app syncs your scorebook through Apple's CloudKit using your private iCloud database.
That's it. There is no developer-controlled server, no remote backend, and no cloud service operated by us.
Who has access
You. You have full access from any Apple device signed into your iCloud account with the app installed.
Apple. Your iCloud data is stored on Apple's servers under standard iCloud encryption in transit and at rest. If you have Apple's Advanced Data Protection enabled on your Apple ID, your scorebook is end-to-end encrypted — meaning even Apple cannot read it.
The developer (Mike Hayner of PNWSoft). No access. We have no path to read what you store. The only Target Detect data we ever see is content you voluntarily send to us — for example, a screenshot or photograph attached to a support email.
Third parties
Target Detect uses no third-party software development kits (SDKs), no analytics services, no advertising networks, no attribution services, and no crash reporting services that send your data off your device. The only external service involved is Apple's CloudKit, which operates under your iCloud account and Apple's privacy policy.
Location
Target Detect can use your device's location only if you explicitly grant permission. When enabled, the app uses your location on-device to recognize which range you're at and prefill the range name for new shooting sessions. Your location is never transmitted off your device and is off by default.
App tracking
Target Detect does not engage in any form of user tracking. The app does not request permission under Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework because we do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not share any data with third parties for advertising or attribution.
Children's privacy
Target Detect is not directed at children under the age of 13. Because the app collects no personal data at all, there is nothing for us to delete or restrict on our side; however, parents and guardians should supervise device use as they see fit.
Your rights
Because Target Detect does not collect or store any of your personal data on our systems, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. To manage the data stored in your iCloud, you can use Apple's tools:
- Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, where you can review and delete Target Detect's iCloud data
- Apple's Data and Privacy portal at privacy.apple.com for broader iCloud control
You can also export your scorebook at any time from within the app — shot data as CSV files, target images as PNG files.
Changes to this policy
If we make any changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because Target Detect's privacy posture is essentially "we don't do anything," we don't anticipate frequent changes.
